Welcome to my web page. I am Ray Aldred, a PhD student and senior analyst for a bank in Canada. Thinking Otherwise is a blog and independent publication that I launched in September 2025, which captures whatever crosses my mind at the particular time.
I am interested in neuroethics, AI, First Peoples’ philosophy, love, sexuality, data, AI, and disability. I am also a member of the Métis Nation of Alberta and a descendant of the Historic Red River Métis Nation, and I also have Cree kinship ties through my father, who is a member of the Swan River Band in Treaty 8 Territory.
I have expanded my expertise by training in Data Science using Python. My technical skill set includes about 3+ years of experience with Machine Learning using Scikit-Learn, Keras, and TensorFlow; proficiency in Tableau, Excel, and Python; and beginner-level knowledge of R and SAS. In addition, I have taken classes on statistics, time series analysis, and SAS. In my current role, I refine the bank’s forecasting methodology using time-series statistical models, focusing on a data-driven, consistent approach to predicting delinquencies and losses across some of the bank’s products. In addition, I help strengthen the Canadian Banking Risk Appetite framework by meticulously monitoring, reporting, and analyzing any breaches.
I am also really into Linux and open source technology.
